H.W. Harvey is a pioneering figure in the application of robotics to nuclear power plant safety and maintenance. His research focuses on the development, testing, and cost-effective deployment of mobile robotic systems for hazardous environments. Harvey’s major contributions include the landmark in-plant testing of the SURBOT mobile surveillance robot at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, which demonstrated that a single robot could reliably perform remote surveillance across 54 separate controlled radiation rooms, transmitting high-quality video and audio data.
