About
George Todd is a pioneering robotic surgeon whose work has fundamentally advanced the integration of robotics, surgical training, and intraoperative imaging. His research centers on three key areas: developing novel robotic surgical techniques, creating objective assessment tools for robotic performance, and overcoming technical barriers to augmented reality in the operating room. Todd’s most impactful contribution is his 2008 study on robotic intercostal nerve grafting to reverse thoracic sympathectomy—a novel treatment for patients suffering from debilitating compensatory sweating after hyperhidrosis surgery. This work, cited 28 times, established a large animal feasibility model for a procedure that could transform the management of a common surgical complication. In 2005, he introduced a novel drill set for enhancing and assessing robotic surgical performance (23 citations), providing one of the first standardized platforms for training and evaluating surgeons on the da Vinci system.
