Florian Maier’s research lies at the intersection of medical robotics and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), with a primary focus on advancing non-invasive surgical techniques. His most significant contribution is in the field of Magnetic Resonance-guided Focused Ultrasound Surgery (MRgFUS), where he developed robotic systems to enhance the precision and reach of ultrasound ablation. His seminal 2010 paper, “A long arm for ultrasound,” introduced a combined robotic focused ultrasound setup for MR-guided surgery, demonstrating how robotic assistance could extend the therapeutic range of FUS while maintaining compatibility with the high-field MRI environment.
