About
Eros Scarciglia is a pioneering urologic surgeon at the forefront of next-generation robotic surgery, with a focused expertise in robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) for prostate cancer. His major contributions center on the clinical validation and comparative analysis of the novel Hugo™ RAS surgical platform. In a landmark monocentric series of 132 cases, he demonstrated the feasibility and safety of this emerging technology, reporting promising early functional and oncological outcomes. To establish its efficacy, Scarciglia conducted a systematic review and pooled analysis of Hugo™ RAS outcomes, synthesizing evidence from multiple studies. His most impactful work involves rigorous, propensity score-matched comparisons between the Hugo™ RAS and the established daVinci system, assessing intraoperative, oncological, and functional results at both perioperative and one-year follow-up intervals. These comparative studies, each garnering over 20 citations, are critically needed to guide the adoption of new robotic platforms. With four highly cited papers published in 2024, Scarciglia is a leading voice in the objective evaluation of surgical robotics, providing essential data for surgeons and institutions considering technological transitions in the treatment of prostate cancer.
