About

Dr. E. Roussos is a leading planetary scientist whose research focuses on the magnetospheric and plasma environments of the outer Solar System, with a particular emphasis on the enigmatic ice giants, Uranus and Neptune. A key contributor to long-term mission planning, Roussos co-authored the influential 2021 paper "Ice giant system exploration within ESA’s Voyage 2050," which has already garnered over 11 citations for its compelling case that these distant worlds represent the last unexplored class of planet. This work, developed for the European Space Agency’s strategic planning process, articulates the profound scientific return of a dedicated robotic mission to the ice giant systems, highlighting their unique magnetic fields, complex ring-moon interactions, and potential as archetypes for the most common type of exoplanet. Beyond this flagship study, Roussos’s broader research portfolio includes extensive analysis of data from the Cassini mission at Saturn, exploring particle dynamics and radiation belts. By bridging current observations with future exploration goals, Roussos is helping to shape the next generation of planetary science, inspiring students and researchers to look toward the farthest frontiers of our Solar System.
