About
Dr. Deepak Prakash Bhirud is a pioneering urologic surgeon whose research centers on advancing minimally invasive robotic surgery for complex urological conditions. His major contributions span robot-assisted pyeloplasty, nephrectomy, and radical prostatectomy, where he has demonstrated that robotic techniques can reduce postoperative pain, improve recovery, and achieve superior outcomes compared to traditional open surgery. Notably, his work on robot-assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty (5 citations) has helped establish this approach as a gold standard for pelviureteric junction obstruction. Dr. Bhirud has also made critical contributions to oncologic urology, including a landmark study on Gleason score discrepancies between needle core biopsy and radical prostatectomy specimens (5 citations), which has important implications for prostate cancer staging and treatment planning. His clinical expertise extends to managing rare and challenging cases, such as female distal urethral primary urothelial carcinoma and iatrogenic vascular injuries during robotic surgery. With over 25 citations across his most-cited works, Dr. Bhirud’s research continues to shape best practices in robotic urologic surgery, offering safer, more effective solutions for patients with complex urologic diseases.
