Dan S. Tawfik is a pioneering figure in protein engineering and directed evolution, whose work has fundamentally reshaped how we understand enzyme function and evolution. His key research areas include the origins of enzymatic catalysis, the evolution of new protein functions, and the development of high-throughput screening technologies. Tawfik’s major contributions lie in creating innovative methods to accelerate evolution in the lab.
