About
Dahong Zhang is a pioneering urological surgeon whose research focuses on advancing minimally invasive robotic techniques for the treatment of renal and prostate cancers. A central contribution is the development of zero-ischaemia robotic-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (RALPN), a technique that preserves kidney function during tumour removal. In a 2023 study, Zhang demonstrated the feasibility and safety of this approach by combining RALPN with preoperative superselective transarterial embolization, successfully treating 32 patients with T1 renal cancer. This work represents a significant step toward nephron-sparing surgery with reduced renal damage. Zhang has also innovated in prostate cancer surgery, introducing a transvesical approach for robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy that utilizes a bladder neck and prostate combined longitudinal incision, designed to improve outcomes for localized disease. Additionally, Zhang’s research extends to robotic-assisted laparoscopic management of complex vascular anomalies, such as multiple aneurysms in renal artery bifurcations. With a growing body of clinical evidence, Zhang’s work is shaping the future of robotic urologic oncology, offering patients safer, more effective surgical options.
