About
Dr. Caroline Poulsen is a leading atmospheric scientist whose research focuses on advancing satellite-based aerosol retrievals to improve climate modeling and air quality monitoring. Her work centers on developing and refining algorithms that extract aerosol optical depth (AOD) data from multiple satellite sensors, addressing critical uncertainties in how these observations are used to evaluate climate models. Dr. Poulsen’s most impactful contribution is her leadership in the landmark AeroCom–AeroSat study (2020, 82 citations), which systematically intercompared 14 satellite AOD products from nine retrieval algorithm families, providing the community with a benchmark for understanding observational uncertainties.
