About
C. Ceruti is a urological surgeon whose research focuses on optimizing surgical outcomes for benign prostatic enlargement (BPE) and prostate cancer, with a particular emphasis on large-volume prostates and sexual rehabilitation. Their most cited work, a 2020 systematic review of randomized clinical trials, established a critical evidence-based framework for the standard surgical approach to large-volume BPE, addressing a significant gap in the literature by concentrating exclusively on level 1 evidence for this challenging patient population. This review has garnered 48 citations, underscoring its influence on clinical practice. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ceruti led a national, multi-institutional study across 28 Italian centers that assessed the safety of elective urological surgery, providing essential perioperative data that helped guide surgical decision-making during a global health crisis. Ceruti has also contributed innovative techniques for sexual rehabilitation, notably describing the placement of a three-component penile implant reservoir during robotic extra-aponeurotic radical prostatectomy for patients where nerve-sparing is not feasible. This work demonstrates a commitment to preserving quality of life in high-risk prostate cancer patients, bridging oncological control with functional restoration.
