About
Roberto Falabella is a urologic surgeon and researcher whose work centers on advancing surgical approaches for benign prostatic enlargement (BPE), prostate cancer, and complex reconstructive urology. He has made major contributions to evidence-based surgery for large-volume BPE, systematically reviewing randomized clinical trials to define the standard surgical approach for this challenging patient population—a paper that has garnered 48 citations and become a key reference in the field. Falabella has also led multi-institutional investigations into the management of radiation-induced ureteral strictures, a notoriously difficult condition, and has explored the relationship between body mass index and prostate volume, offering new insights into preoperative planning. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he coordinated a national study across 28 Italian institutions to assess the safety of elective urological surgery, providing critical guidance for perioperative care. More recently, his multicenter analysis on prostatic shape and early continence recovery after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy has opened new avenues for improving functional outcomes. Through collaborative efforts with the European Association of Urology, Falabella continues to shape best practices in robotic urologic surgery, earning recognition as a rising leader in the field.
