About
Benjamin Lallemant is a pioneering head and neck surgeon whose work has fundamentally shaped the adoption of transoral robotic surgery (TORS) for treating cancers of the larynx, pharynx, and thyroid. His research focuses on advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques to improve oncologic outcomes while preserving function and quality of life for patients. Lallemant led the French TORS group’s landmark multi-institutional study (86 citations) that established the safety and feasibility of robotic surgery across seven tertiary centers. He further demonstrated TORS’s effectiveness for early-stage laryngeal tumors (77 citations) and supraglottic squamous cell carcinoma (48 citations), providing critical long-term oncologic data through the GETTEC collaborative network. His work also extends to robotic thyroid surgery, where he evaluated transaxillary and infraclavicular approaches in European cohorts. By systematically comparing TORS with transoral laser microsurgery and validating novel techniques, Lallemant has provided surgeons with evidence-based guidance for selecting the best minimally invasive approach. His contributions have helped define the modern standard of care for head and neck cancer surgery, making robotic procedures more accessible and reproducible worldwide.
