About
Anthony Bucholtz is a research meteorologist whose work centers on aerosol–cloud interactions, atmospheric radiation, and the meteorological processes that govern aerosol transport and transformation. He is best known for his leadership in the 7 Southeast Asian Studies (7-SEAS) program, particularly the 2012 southwest monsoon intensive study in the Maritime Continent. This campaign—the largest 7-SEAS deployment to date—integrated an enhanced AERONET sun photometer network, multiple lidars, and surface-based observations to characterize biomass burning emissions and their regional impacts. His contributions have advanced understanding of how aerosol plumes from peat and forest fires evolve meteorologically and influence cloud properties and radiation budgets. While his most cited paper has garnered over 30 citations, his broader body of work has shaped field campaign design and aerosol–meteorology feedback modeling in Southeast Asia. Bucholtz’s research is foundational for improving climate and air quality predictions in one of the world’s most aerosol-dynamic regions.
