About
Ansgar Malich is a leading figure in interventional breast imaging, with a particular focus on magnetic resonance (MR)-guided biopsy techniques. His pioneering work addresses the critical challenge of performing precise, minimally invasive breast biopsies within the high-field environment of a whole-body MR scanner. In his landmark 2003 study, cited 39 times, Malich introduced a novel robotic manipulator system designed for 14-gauge large core breast biopsies inside a 1.5 T magnet. This work demonstrated the feasibility of accurately targeting suspicious lesions (averaging 18.6 mm in diameter) under MR guidance, with subsequent surgical confirmation of malignant findings.
