About
Anjali Sharma is a pioneering researcher at SDG Labs whose work sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence, robotics, and sustainable food systems. Her research is primarily focused on tackling one of the most pressing global challenges of our time: food waste in the agricultural supply chain. Sharma has made significant contributions by developing innovative technological solutions to reduce the staggering one-third of global food production that is lost or wasted annually, much of it due to arbitrary cosmetic standards applied to fresh produce. Among her most notable achievements is the conception, design, and development of the AI-enabled Grader App, a sophisticated tool capable of automatically sorting produce into good, bad, and imperfect categories. Complementing this, she created the Imperfect Foods Dataverse, an open image dataset hosted on Harvard Dataverse, providing the research community with critical training data for AI-powered sorting systems. Her 2023 systematic literature review on AI and robotics in food supply chains further establishes a theoretical framework and research agenda for the field.
