About
Alfredo Mussi is a pioneering thoracic surgeon whose work has fundamentally reshaped minimally invasive approaches to complex chest surgeries. His research centers on robotic-assisted procedures for lung cancer, thymoma, and mediastinal diseases, with a particular focus on improving oncologic outcomes and surgical safety. Mussi’s landmark 2011 study on robotic lobectomy for non–small cell lung cancer (271 citations) provided the first long-term oncologic results, demonstrating that robotic surgery could achieve cancer clearance comparable to open thoracotomy while reducing patient trauma. He further advanced the field through a multi-institutional European study on robotic thymectomy for early-stage thymoma (147 citations), which established the technique’s safety and efficacy.
