About
G. Amorese is a pioneering surgical researcher whose work has fundamentally advanced the application of robotic and laparoscopic techniques to some of the most complex procedures in abdominal surgery. Specializing in minimally invasive pancreatic and transplant surgery, Amorese has consistently pushed the boundaries of what is achievable through robotic-assisted approaches, demonstrating both their feasibility and safety in high-stakes clinical settings. Among their most celebrated contributions is a landmark 2013 study on robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy — one of the most technically demanding operations in surgery — which has since garnered nearly 200 citations. Complementing this, a 2014 systematic review of laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy established an authoritative evidence base that continues to guide surgical practice. Amorese also made history by performing Europe's first robotic renal transplantation, published in 2010 with 124 citations, and subsequently pioneered robotic-assisted pancreas transplantation. Further influential work examining the learning curve for robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy and propensity score-matched analyses comparing robotic to open approaches has provided surgeons with critical data on outcomes, margins, and fistula risk. With a body of work accumulating over 1,000 citations, Amorese stands as a transformative figure in minimally invasive abdominal surgery.
