About
Alex Rogers is a leading researcher in multi-robot systems and autonomous coordination, with a primary focus on deploying heterogeneous robot teams for disaster response and search and rescue. His most impactful work, "Online Planning for Collaborative Search and Rescue by Heterogeneous Robot Teams" (2016, 54 citations), addresses the critical challenge of enabling diverse robots to cooperate effectively under incomplete and dynamically changing information. Rogers further advanced this domain with "Collaborative online planning for automated victim search in disaster response" (2017, 34 citations), refining real-time decision-making for life-saving missions. A foundational contribution is his development of a decentralised coordination mechanism using the max-sum algorithm for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) searching for moving targets (2010, 15 citations), which introduced an online, scalable approach to multi-agent coordination in continuous spaces. Earlier in his career, Rogers also contributed to control theory, achieving global output feedback stabilization for uncertain nonholonomic systems with applications to mobile robots (2003). Through this body of work, Rogers has established himself as a key figure in practical, decentralised multi-robot coordination, directly impacting the design of autonomous systems for critical humanitarian applications.
