Dr. Akihiro Yasui is a pioneering pediatric surgeon whose work is transforming the surgical management of complex congenital conditions through the application of advanced robotic technologies. His primary research focuses on the comparative outcomes of open, laparoscopic, and robot-assisted surgery for pediatric hepatobiliary diseases, particularly congenital biliary dilatation (CBD) and choledochal cyst excision. Dr. Yasui’s major contributions include demonstrating the safety and efficacy of robot-assisted bile ductoplasty and intrapancreatic bile duct resection across all age groups, a technically demanding procedure previously considered high-risk. He also led the first reported case series of pediatric pelvic surgery using the novel Senhance® robotic system, expanding the surgical toolkit beyond the established da Vinci platform.
