Bisphenol A (BPA) is a synthetic organic compound widely used as a monomer in the production of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins, which appear in countless everyday products including food containers, electronics casings, and structural adhesives. In robotics and AI-adjacent fields, BPA is relevant both as a material concern and as a target for sensor-based detection systems. Electrochemical sensors — such as those using silver nanoparticle-decorated electrodes — enable rapid, sensitive identification of BPA contamination in water and environmental samples, supporting automated environmental monitoring applications. Additionally, BPA-based epoxy systems serve as functional materials in flexible electronics, where researchers are actively working to develop self-healing and degradable alternatives that reduce environmental impact while maintaining the mechanical performance needed for stretchable strain sensors used in soft robotics and wearable devices. Understanding BPA matters because balancing its valuable material properties against its known endocrine-disrupting health effects drives innovation toward safer, sustainable material platforms for next-generation robotic and electronic systems.
