About
Vincent Chan is a pioneer in neuromorphic engineering, a field that draws inspiration from biological neural systems to build intelligent sensing and computing hardware. His most influential work centers on creating sensor fusion systems that mimic the brain’s ability to integrate multiple senses. In his landmark 2012 paper, Chan introduced the first robotic system to combine a silicon cochlea (an artificial ear) and a silicon retina (an artificial eye) on a single platform. This breakthrough allowed a robot to learn sound localization through self-motion and visual feedback, effectively teaching itself to “hear” by watching its own movements.
