Thomas Fogarty is a pioneering figure in interventional cardiology and cardiac surgery, best known for inventing the Fogarty balloon catheter—a device that revolutionized the treatment of blood clots and vascular disease. His research spans minimally invasive surgical techniques, cardiac ablation, and the intersection of radiation therapy with cardiology.
