About

Dr. Jie Tang is a leading urologic surgeon and researcher whose work centers on the surgical management of advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC), particularly cases complicated by inferior vena cava (IVC) tumor thrombus. His major contributions lie in refining surgical techniques and perioperative imaging to improve outcomes in these high-risk patients. In his highly cited 2019 study, Dr. Tang pioneered the use of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) to differentiate bland thrombus from tumor thrombus and to detect IVC wall invasion prior to robot-assisted thrombectomy. This work has been instrumental in guiding surgical strategy, helping to avoid unnecessary caval resection and reducing operative morbidity. With over 33 citations, this study has become a key reference for surgeons planning complex IVC thrombectomies. Dr. Tang’s research continues to push the boundaries of minimally invasive urologic oncology, offering patients safer, more precise surgical options for locally aggressive RCC.
