About
Dr. Seung‐Rim Han is a pioneering surgeon whose research focuses on advancing minimally invasive surgery through single-port robotic platforms, particularly the da Vinci SP system. His major contributions lie in demonstrating the safety, feasibility, and clinical advantages of single-port robotic approaches for complex abdominal procedures. In his landmark 2023 study comparing the da Vinci SP to the Xi system for rectal cancer surgery, Dr. Han provided crucial evidence that the SP platform can achieve comparable short-term outcomes while offering enhanced maneuverability in the narrow pelvis—a finding with 15 citations that is shaping surgical practice. He has also broken new ground by adapting the SP robot for challenging hernia repairs, including the first description of single-port robotic extended totally extraperitoneal (eTEP) with transverse abdominis release (TAR) for lateral ventral hernias, and by overcoming technical barriers to perform totally extraperitoneal (TEP) inguinal hernia repair with the SP platform. His work, accumulating over 27 citations in just two years, is establishing new standards for scarless, less invasive surgery and inspiring a generation of surgeons to push the boundaries of what is possible with single-port robotics.
