About
Ricardo Guerra is a pioneering head and neck surgeon whose work centers on the application of transoral robotic surgery (TORS) for complex aerodigestive tract pathologies. His research has been instrumental in demonstrating the efficacy of minimally invasive robotic techniques for treating neoplastic and benign lesions of the larynx, hypopharynx, and trachea, offering patients alternatives to traditional, often mutilating, open surgeries. Guerra’s key contributions include the first reported robotic resections of rare entities such as oncocytic ductal cysts and spindle cell/pleomorphic lipomas of the larynx, as well as a landmark case of bilateral vallecular cyst removal. His most cited work, a foundational 2014 paper on TORS for head and neck cancer (9 citations), helped establish the robotic approach as a viable treatment modality in the context of rising HPV-related disease.
