About

Ovidiu Coste is a neuroscientist whose research bridges molecular signaling and spinal pain processing. His work centers on two key areas: the role of bioactive lipids in nociception and the systems-level analysis of ubiquitin ligase networks. Coste’s 2008 study on sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) was among the first to demonstrate that this abundant CNS signaling molecule directly modulates spinal nociceptive processing, opening a new avenue for understanding pain mechanisms. With 51 citations, this foundational paper established S1P as a critical modulator of neuronal function, not just a regulator of cell survival and migration. In parallel, Coste pioneered the use of multiepitope ligand cartography (MELC) to map the functional interactome of the giant E3 ubiquitin ligase PAM (protein associated with Myc) during spinal pain processing. His 2008 toponomics analysis (30 citations) revealed how PAM coordinates protein networks that regulate synaptic strength, offering unprecedented insight into the molecular architecture of nociception. By combining lipid signaling with high-dimensional proteomic mapping, Coste has provided a unique framework for understanding how complex molecular interactions govern spinal pain pathways.
