Mriganka Sur is a pioneering neuroscientist whose research has fundamentally reshaped our understanding of brain development, plasticity, and the emergence of intelligence. His work bridges the gap between neural circuits and behavior, with a particular focus on how the brain organizes itself through experience and autonomous learning. Sur’s most cited paper, "Autonomous Mental Development by Robots and Animals" (2001, 648 citations), proposes a groundbreaking framework for creating intelligent machines by mimicking the developmental processes of biological brains—a paradigm shift from traditional knowledge-based AI.
