About

M. Kessler is a pioneering surgeon whose work has fundamentally advanced the field of living-donor kidney transplantation through the development and refinement of robot-assisted laparoscopic donor (RALD) nephrectomy. Over a career spanning two decades, Kessler has been at the forefront of demonstrating that robotic assistance can reduce donor morbidity while maintaining excellent graft outcomes. Their landmark 2005 study, cited 71 times, provided one of the earliest direct comparisons between RALD and open nephrectomy, showing that the robotic approach offers a safe, minimally invasive alternative. This was followed by a 2007 evaluation of 38 procedures (62 citations), which established the feasibility of a completely robotic technique.
