M. Felices is a pioneer in the field of robotic-assisted endoscopy, with a career dedicated to enhancing surgical precision through human-robot collaboration. Their foundational work centers on the development and clinical evaluation of novel robotic endoscope manipulators, designed to replace human assistants in holding and positioning endoscopic cameras. Felices’ most influential contribution is the creation of a new robotic endoscope manipulator, detailed in a 2001 paper that has garnered 25 citations, establishing a key reference point for early robotic systems in minimally invasive surgery. This work involved modifying an industrial robot’s tool-holder arm to support the optic and camera, and rewriting control-card programs to meet surgical needs.
