About

Dr. Koen Traen is a pioneering gynecological surgeon whose research focuses on advancing robotic-assisted surgery for women with gynecologic cancers. His major contributions span intraoperative physiology, surgical outcomes, and the frontiers of telesurgery. In a landmark 2009 study (28 citations), he demonstrated that pulmonary gas exchange remains well preserved during robot-assisted surgery in the steep Trendelenburg position, providing critical safety data for complex procedures. Dr. Traen has also led impactful cohort studies evaluating oncologic outcomes for endometrial cancer (15 citations) and cervical carcinoma (12 citations), helping to validate robotic approaches in gynecologic oncology.
