About

Karin Leunen is a pioneering gynecologic oncologist whose work has advanced the surgical management of cervical carcinoma, particularly through the adoption of robotic-assisted techniques. Her research focuses on minimally invasive staging and treatment, with major contributions to the refinement of para-aortic lymphadenectomy and radical hysterectomy. In her landmark 2008 study, Leunen reported the first use of the Da Vinci robotic system for retroperitoneal lower para-aortic lymphadenectomy in five cervical cancer patients, demonstrating the feasibility and safety of this technically challenging procedure (77 citations).
