About
Kenneth G. Nepple is a leading urologic oncologist whose research has fundamentally advanced the surgical management of bladder and kidney cancers, particularly through the adoption and refinement of robotic-assisted techniques. As a key contributor to the International Robotic Cystectomy Consortium (IRCC), his work has provided critical, large-scale evidence on the safety and efficacy of robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC). His landmark studies, including analyses of over 1,100 patients, demonstrated that RARC is a feasible and safe option even for advanced bladder cancer, while also comparing outcomes of intracorporeal versus extracorporeal urinary diversion. His highly cited papers, with individual works garnering over 300 citations, have helped standardize surgical protocols and define the learning curve for complex procedures. Beyond bladder cancer, Nepple has made significant contributions to nephron-sparing surgery, showing that off-clamp robot-assisted partial nephrectomy can preserve renal function without compromising oncologic control. His work on intraoperative safety checklists for hemorrhage control has directly improved patient outcomes. Through his leadership in multi-institutional consortiums, Nepple has shaped modern urologic oncology, providing the evidence base that guides surgeons worldwide in performing minimally invasive, life-saving procedures.
