About
K. Lala is an educational technology researcher whose work centers on engineering education, robotics pedagogy, and scalable learning systems in India. Best known for contributions to the **e-Yantra** initiative at IIT Bombay, Lala has played a significant role in democratizing hands-on embedded systems and robotics education for engineering students across the country. Through the e-Yantra Robotics Competition (eYRC), Lala helped design and implement a pioneering model of online Project Based Learning delivered at massive scale — engaging hundreds of student teams nationwide and demonstrating that distance education need not sacrifice practical, experiential learning. With over 50 citations across key publications, Lala's research offers valuable insights into how competition-driven learning motivates students and fosters innovation. The e-Yantra Lab Setup Initiative, another notable contribution, addressed critical infrastructure and faculty training gaps at engineering colleges, enabling sustainable, scalable robotics education in resource-constrained environments. More recently, Lala has explored machine learning applications in educational assessment, developing auto-tagging systems to more accurately classify question difficulty in large-scale online selection tests. Together, this body of work positions Lala as a thoughtful innovator at the intersection of technology, pedagogy, and educational equity.
