About
Jai Min Ryu is a pioneering breast surgical oncologist whose work has fundamentally shaped the adoption and standardization of robotic and minimally invasive breast surgery. Based in South Korea, Ryu has emerged as one of the foremost international authorities on robot-assisted nipple-sparing mastectomy (RNSM), dedicating his research to demonstrating its feasibility, safety, and superiority over conventional approaches in terms of cosmetic outcomes and patient quality of life. His early landmark study on robot-assisted nipple-sparing mastectomy with immediate reconstruction (2020, 68 citations) established critical foundational evidence for the field, while his subsequent international multicenter pooled data analysis (2022, 65 citations) elevated the conversation to a global scale. Ryu has also addressed barriers to wider adoption by developing structured training programs using cadaveric and animal models, and he has contributed to major consensus-building efforts that guide clinical practice worldwide. As a founding contributor to the Korea Robot-Endoscopy Minimal Access Breast Surgery Study Group (KoREa-BSG), Ryu has orchestrated prospective multicenter studies that continue to define best practices. With nearly 250 cumulative citations across his most influential works, his contributions represent a transformative force in modern breast oncological surgery.
