About
Giuseppe Cardillo is a leading thoracic surgeon whose research is shaping the future of surgical education and minimally invasive treatment for thymic disorders. His work is centered on two critical areas: standardizing simulation-based training to improve surgical proficiency, and optimizing robotic approaches for complex mediastinal pathologies. In a landmark 2023 international needs assessment, Dr. Cardillo led a global Delphi consensus among 34 key opinion leaders to identify and prioritize technical procedures for simulation-based training in thoracic surgery. This foundational work, cited 13 times, is directly informing the development of a structured, competency-based curriculum for the next generation of surgeons. More recently, his 2024 national multicenter study compared robotic versus open thymectomy in myasthenic patients with thymic neoplasms, providing crucial data on surgical, neurological, and oncological outcomes. With 7 citations already, this work is helping to solidify robotic thymectomy as a safe and effective standard of care. Through these high-impact contributions, Dr. Cardillo is not only advancing surgical technique but also building the educational infrastructure needed to ensure its safe and widespread adoption.
