About
Fadi Farhat is a pioneering cardiac surgeon whose work has fundamentally shaped the landscape of minimally invasive coronary revascularization. His research focuses on robotic-assisted and hybrid approaches to bypass surgery, aiming to reduce patient trauma while maintaining the gold standard of arterial grafting. Dr. Farhat’s most significant contribution is the first reported case of a totally endoscopic off-pump bilateral internal thoracic artery bypass grafting, a landmark 2004 study with 18 citations that demonstrated the feasibility of performing complex, multi-vessel revascularization through closed-chest, beating-heart techniques. This work, leveraging robotic assistance and endoscopic stabilizers, directly challenged the conventional open-heart paradigm. Earlier, in a 2000 paper with 10 citations, he introduced the concept of "hybrid cardiac revascularization," combining totally closed-chest robotic LITA-to-LAD grafting with percutaneous coronary intervention for other lesions. This visionary integration of surgical and interventional cardiology pioneered a new, less invasive treatment pathway.
