About
Brooke Thigpen is a minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon whose research sits at the cutting edge of robotic surgery, natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES), and advanced endometriosis management. With a particular focus on robotic-assisted transvaginal NOTES (R-vNOTES) hysterectomy, Thigpen has been instrumental in establishing the safety profile, learning curve, and comparative outcomes of this emerging surgical approach, earning over 60 citations for related work published between 2021 and 2023. Her research rigorously benchmarks R-vNOTES against traditional approaches, offering gynecologic surgeons evidence-based guidance for adopting these techniques. Thigpen has also pioneered the application of indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence imaging in robotic surgery for deep infiltrating and Stage IV endometriosis, improving ureteral visualization and safety during complex adhesiolysis — a contribution with meaningful implications for reducing surgical complications. Notably, her work examining junior versus senior surgeon performance in fluorescence-guided ureterolysis addresses real-world training challenges in the field. From managing extreme surgical scenarios — including hysterectomy in a patient with a BMI of 70 — to cerclage placement in pregnancy, Thigpen's portfolio reflects both technical innovation and a commitment to expanding access to safe, advanced minimally invasive gynecologic care.
