About
Brian Dinerman is a reconstructive urologist whose work focuses on the surgical management of complex, often catastrophic, complications following prostate cancer treatment. His key research areas include robotic-assisted reconstruction of the lower urinary tract and the management of challenging post-prostatectomy strictures. Dinerman’s major contribution is the development and reporting of novel surgical techniques for repairing severely disrupted vesicourethral anastomoses (VUAs)—the connection between the bladder and urethra. His most cited work, a 2017 case report with 12 citations, details the first successful robotic-assisted abdomino-perineal reconstruction of a 4.5 cm post-prostatectomy stricture in a patient with undiagnosed hemophilia. This landmark case demonstrated that even a near-complete loss of urethral continuity, complicated by prior bleeding and urinary diversion, could be salvaged with a minimally invasive approach. By pushing the boundaries of what is surgically possible, Dinerman provides a critical, life-restoring option for patients with devastating iatrogenic injuries, directly improving outcomes for a population with few alternatives.
