About
Dr. A. Silmi Moyano is a pioneering urological surgeon whose work has been instrumental in establishing robotic surgery as a standard of care in Spain. His primary research focuses on the application of robotic-assisted technology for complex pelvic reconstructive procedures, most notably sacrocolpopexy for pelvic organ prolapse. His landmark prospective analysis on long-term outcomes after robotic sacrocolpopexy (53 citations) demonstrated the feasibility and durability of the technique for high-grade prolapse, providing crucial evidence for its adoption. Beyond clinical outcomes, Dr. Moyano has been a leader in surgical education and credentialing. His national multicentre survey on the learning curve for robotic urological surgery (18 citations) identified key training areas, helping to shape consensus criteria for safe implementation across Spanish hospitals. As the first surgeon to perform a Da Vinci prostatectomy in a Spanish public centre (Hospital Clínico San Carlos), he spearheaded the multidisciplinary integration of robotics into a tertiary university hospital, laying the organizational groundwork for modern robotic programs. His contributions have not only advanced surgical technique but also established the frameworks for training and quality assurance that enable the safe expansion of robotic surgery.
