Abstract
Transforming and manipulating tons of information across different platforms for optimal organizational returns is one of the core actions in the current business environment. Robotic process automation is a structured software solution that uses bots to save human beings from boring and tiring tasks. Despite the clear evidence of RPA benefits, very few people are aware of what RPA is and the many benefits it brings to organizations. Most studies on the subject look at the general overview of what RPA is and some focus on specific business areas. This study aims to give an objective view of what RPA is, its benefits and challenges from real scientific studies that were carried out on some organizations and business areas that have adopted RPA and are using it to improve their bottom line, operations and staff morale. The areas include retail banking, audit, the South Africa Revenue Authority (SARS), human resources, supply and logistics. Interestingly results from the various studies revealed that there were so many benefits gained by organizations that were using RPA. Future research will investigate the relevance, benefits and challenges in adopting RPA on the face of emerging technologies such as Generative AI and machine learning.
