Experimental Determinations of the Influence of Environmental Factors on the Electrical Properties of Some Composite Materials

Abstract
Composite materials, which are state-of-the-art materials with special properties, have been used in recent decades in various fields of activity from robotics to medicine, from architectural constructions to sports equipment, from electronics, electrical and IT to aerospace or automotive constructions. That is why it is necessary to carefully study these materials and how environmental factors (heat, cold, humidity etc.) can affect the properties of these materials. This paper was proposed for the experimental determination of the influence of ambient temperature on the value of dielectric strength for some polymeric composite electrical insulating materials. A more special test was also carried out, to which polymeric composite materials are not currently subjected, but which is important for industrial applications in the field of electrical engineering, namely the proof tracking index of solid insulating materials (PTI). The thermal conditioning, the experimental determination of dielectric strength for each material and the verification of the proof tracking index of solid insulating materials were performed in the RENAR accredited laboratory within the National Research, Development and Testing Institute for Electrical Engineering- ICMET Craiova. The experimental results showed that in the case of the studied composite materials, no influences of environmental factors were observed on the dielectric strength values.
