Abstract
Extensive use of high-end industrial properties is the current paradigm shift as an essence to Industry 4.0. Predictive maintenance and industrial Internet of Things (IoT) discuss the identification of irregularities that can result in high costs due to downtime in production besides assisting in human comfort and higher safety standards. With a complex degree of automation via advanced robotics and cloud computing, industrial-IoT is a progress towards all the interconnected systems that permits for optimized process control. The industrial maintenance has been a critical issue in gaining an optimized returnon-investment towards complex engineering systems within an international economic and business environment. The chapter presents few research works in context to the data driven approach to remaining useful life estimation. It provides the IoT-philosophy, applications and advantages in different engineering domains. The combination of IoT with structural health monitoring and cloud computing has empowered global facilities.
