Abstract
Brushless DC Motors (BLDC) are electronically commutated motors. These are multipurpose motors used in various applications such as drill machines to complex machines like robots. BLDC motor is popular because of the various advantages they possess over other motors which use mechanical commutation or brushed motors. Because of the numerous applications and advantages of the BLDC motor, it becomes important to address the speed control of this motor. This paper presents an approach to control the speed of the BLDC motor through the controller designed using the H-infinity method. The performance of the designed controller has been compared with some well-known methods of controller design. Comparative analysis has been done on the basis of performance and robustness.
