Abstract

With rapid changes in the workplace, technology is becoming the key driver in the transition from Industry 4.0 to 5.0. A combination of humans and machines is working in conjunction, and there is a need for a human-centric approach in the workplace. The application of various technologies like the IoT, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and blockchain is changing the work dynamics. It is essential to understand the influence of these factors on the workplace as employees work with machines and robots. A few studies in the past have indicated the influence of the advent of technology on the work environment. The main objective of this study is to understand the technological influence on organizations and how it is going to impact employment in the future. Some jobs may become redundant, and the change can lead to job polarization. However, challenges can create tremendous new job opportunities along with increased efficiency and productivity. Nevertheless, it does impact employees and future jobs as well. It is essential that companies consider both ethical and social implications to ensure a smooth transition by upskilling and reskilling the employees. The present chapter provides insights into enhancing security and quality in the workplace in Industry 5.0.
