Abstract

Actuators are a critical component in many mechanical and mechatronic systems, providing motion, force, and control. Over the years, actuators have evolved from simple mechanical devices to sophisticated systems that incorporate advanced materials, electronics, and control technologies. Today, there are many types of actuators available, including hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, thermal, piezoelectric, and more. Actuators find a wide range of applications in industries such as aerospace, automotive, robotics, medical devices, and manufacturing. The development of actuators has led to the creation of advanced systems and technologies that have transformed many industries. The continuous development of new materials and technologies, coupled with the increasing demand for smaller, lighter, and more efficient actuators, will likely drive further innovation and advancement in this field. In this abstract, we provide an overview of actuators, including their classification, applications, advantages and limitations, and the contributions of scientists and engineers to their development.
