Wireless Power Charging and Motion Control of a Magnetic Robot

Abstract
Numerous studies on magnetic robots at the millimeter or micrometer-scale have focused on motion control and a few other functions such as surveillance or object pickup and drop-off. However, with these basic functions only, magnetic robots are still far from their true potential. More complex functions could be achieved with a powerful and intense energy source, which is difficult to implement with their small size. In this paper, a new magnetic robot topology, based on the conventional permanent magnet synchronous motor, is proposed. It features at the same time a motion control solution and a wireless charging solution that reduces the dependency of the robot on its power source. The multi-physics modeling of the robot and the magnetic platform is presented. Then, the simulated results are analyzed.
