Design of A Holistic Thoracoabdominal Phantom for Respiration Tracking Test in Robotic Radiosurgery

Abstract
There is a great challenge to apply radiation therapy technology in the treatment of moving tumors during respiration in present situations, such as treating tumors in the lung. Treating moving targets requires extremely high accuracy to ensure that the surrounding normal tissues are not damaged. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct the simulated treatment test. In this paper, a new design of a holistic thoracoabdominal phantom as a platform for simulated robotic radiosurgery with respiration tracking test is proposed. The phantom is fully designed according to adult male anatomy, with a 1:1 size design, including the overall body shape, assuring the integrity of the associated parts, and the inflatable lungs and simulated lung tumors. The design aims to resemble the characteristics of the skin and tumor’s respiratory motions.
