Abstract

The use of human hand as a natural interface for human-computer interaction (HCI) serves as the motivation for research in hand gesture recognition. Gestures provide a rich and intuitive form of interaction for controlling robots. Vision-based hand gesture recognition involves visual analysis of hand shape, position and/or movement. This paper describes a system which enables a robot to recognize and respond to hand gestures from a human operator. The interface uses some predefined hand gestures, each of which represents an individual control command for the motion control of the remote robot. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed HCI platform can be used reliably in robotic applications.
