Abstract

This paper suggests a way of improving existing methods for controlling an intelligent robot, through a user interface and special controller. The user interface is usually installed in a terminal. This method has disadvantages. One of these disadvantages is that a new user interface must be installed in the terminal, when a new robot is connected. Thus, this paper presents a new way for controlling an intelligent robot with a PDA, via the home network. The network described in this paper consists of many robots, a home server and a PDA, for controlling an intelligent robot. An intelligent robot is registered with the home server. The home server maintains ID lists and service lists. When a user requests a service, the home server searches for a robot in the service lists. The selected robot provides the requested service. After the home server sends a message to the robot, the robot transfers interface modules of the requested service to the user's PDA. Then, the PDA constructs the user interface of the intelligent robot. The user interface consists of standard interface modules and interface modules of the requested service. When this way is used, home network traffic is reduced, and the user can simply access the service of a robot
