Abstract

A unique idea is planned in this paper to furnish intelligence to a wheelchair based on embedded system. Wheelchairs on hand in the market with automatic power supply in the wheels and touchpad/joysticks for the control of navigation are in plenty of number. The majority of these wheelchairs call for manual process and an extra person to look after the protection of the disable individual. Wheelchair with well-organized and simple to use control interfaces would allow disable individuals who have lost control of hands and legs both or either hands and legs or one hand one leg, as a result of higher level spinal cord injury, nervous system disorder, warfare, fortuity and aging, etc. To compensate for their preoccupied functions and improve their ability to live independently and improving quality of life for disable individuals. With innovation in technology, in this paper an intelligent wheelchair robotic model will develop so that the individual can operate the wheelchair purely by their own, robotic model will operate using voice action, remote control and automatic predefined path. Automatic hurdle identification and escaping is performed using ultrasonic and infrared sensors which helps the disable individual to put on a temporary brake if in case any hurdle abruptly is in the way of the wheelchair.
